I am thinking about gear hobbing vs gear shaping. we do this job every year. I would like to increase production.
60 tooth, 72dp, 14.5 pa, 3/16 bore (reamed) , brass washer .064 thick.
2500 pieces or 5000 pieces
on Barber Coleman #6-10, we average aprox 100 pieces per hour .
due to the fine pitch, running on higher rates the cutter chips out.
I would like to increase production and am thinking about useing that Fellows #3 Fine Pitch Gear Shaper. The max stroke is 3/4" (which would make aprox 10 pieces per arbor.) I figure at the low end I could machine at least 250 pieces per hour. assuming 1 minute for change over.
what are your thoughts
