All trilobe bores have a minor diameter. Measure this from gears that you already have and then bore the blanks out to that size.

We then grind a form tool up and then simply machine the trilobe in our slotter. You won't be able to use a boring bar to hold the form tool. The form tool and bar needs to be one piece made out of solid HSS.

The system is OK for small quantities but for larger you can either form mill, wire cut or broach.

Pitch of the gear profile is 16DP, 14.5PA.
