They're called Skew Bevel gears. Old tech. Used in some mountain railroad engines. I once wanted to figure these out but the know how is long gone. In the old days, there were gear planer machines I'm guessing like shapers that were used to make them. I wouldn't give up trying to use a Gleason to make them. Only guessing here, but if the cutters were offset down and up for the left and right handed gears you might be able to get some skew. Also I imagine that a hypoid type of set could be done on a straight Gleason....Please let me know what you find.
