I found this general text for bias changes in
no. 16 machine pinion settings affecting contact pattern:

Tooth BearingPinion
Test Roll
Center
To Back
Sliding
Base
Radial
Setting
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
too high at
large endIncreaseIncreaseDecreaseIncrease
Too low at
small end

For an opposite tooth bearing position, reverse changes (increase or decrease) from those shown above.

This is taken from a Gleason description of Fixed Setting Method, where proportional amounts of changes in settings are calculated as part of the method.

It would be great if this thread continues with photos or examples of tooth contact patterns, etc.
