Well guys,
It's a heroic setup but it does work just fine.
Years ago I new how hobs made gear teeth but I didn't have a hobber at the time. So I did this setup on a B&S universal mill. I picked up the arbor rotation from the back and with universal joints and change gears coupled to an old Van Norman dividing head I cranked out 20 some odd gears. Unfortunately I didn't know the finer points of gear measurement. After heat treatment we had to get them ground somewhere to save the job.
A coworker would often come to where I was working, and no matter what I was doing, he would say, "ya think you can save it?"
