Vaguely, I remember washers with slightly tapered faces that were sold in pairs? These were paired as a set, to put on an arbor to slightly bend the arbor when tightened. The amount of arbor deflection was determined by the relative positional rotation of one with respect to the other.
A scribe mark would represent the position where each tapered face cancels the effect of the other.
I don't remember any set screws, but set screws would be the practical way to keep the (mis)alignment constant.
