Jim,It helps to have a spacer in the machine.Splines
are cut on my 6A with a shank shaper cutter which
has an adapter which screws onto the cutter spindle.
All these pieces add up to quite a lot of length
which uses up the gap between the work mounting
table and the cutter spindle. There is a limit as
to how high the stroke can be adjusted. I don't
know about your machine but the 6A has this limit.
Don might know if these machines often have spacers
in them and if so, why?
