The machine is very tight, no slop anywhere and I am cutting towards the workpiece spindle. when I turn it by hand I get a nice clean cut with just the right "sound".

The pattern I get when I run it is hard to describe, it kinda looks like it has serrations radially. Almost like each rotation the hob is advancing and cutting into the flank of the tooth.

I think this may be related to what I noticed in the beginning, that 34 rotations of the hob was just over 1 rotation of the workpiece spindle.

To summarize my setup;
New workpiece .750 diameter aluminum.
48DP hob, 20 deg PA, 1 degrees helix, depth .0450,
The hob spindle has a 68 tooth gear on it, driving an 84 tooth gear.
The 84T is pinned to a 42T gear, driving a 72T gear which is on the end of the workpiece spindle.

Doesn't this give me a 2,1186 ration? With a 16:1 constant, a 34 tooth setup should be 2.3125, right?

Unfortunately, these are the only change gears I hove to work with until I modify my SB gears to work on the Mikron,

There is a machinery dealer near me that has 6 Mikron 79's that he just sold, I am going to try to talk him out of the 5 change gears he has. A48, 51, 55 and two I couldn't count.
