The belt drives the first shaft which has the first speed (of the hob) gear. Next should be a phenolic idler gear. The next gear sb a driven speed gear on the hob spindle shaft. On the same shaft should be the "A" index gear (32). Next is the compund ratio (intermediate)B/C gears. Then is the "D" index gear. If you turn the "D" gear without the others in mesh you will see the work spindle only turn. If you need a picture I will send one.
