Community PC retains all rights and privileges of ownership of CPC Software. CPC Software may be used on up to five computers belonging to the licensed user. If you need more than five licenses they may be purchased for 5% of single license price.
You can install an unactivated demo on any PC compatible computer, and you may give the demo to anyone. No permission is granted by Community PC to modify the software code in any way.
CPC modules are written for DOS versions 3.0 and later, and they run just as well in Microsoft Windows 3.1x, 95, 98, Me, NT 3.5 & 4.0, Win2000, and WindowsXP 32 bit.
If you are installing on 64-bit versions of Windows (Vista or Win7), visit FAQ About MicroSoft Versions. This FAQ describes MicroSoft's free XP MODE and how it can run all your 16-bit apps - but you must have the right version of Windows!
Sorry, not tested with Macintosh computers. If anyone has tested on a Mac, please let me know.
Please Note:
You might assume that CPC programs should duplicate your library of OEM summaries and setups.
This is seldom the case however, for a number of reasons. CPC software is automated to be applied by a broad base of users.
Setups that were produced manually over a period of years by different individuals are not necessarily consistent in choice of
tooling, constants, graphical readings, rounding, etc. As far as applicablility is concerned, there
is nothing inherently wrong with manually produced setups. You have likely proven them out on your machines.
If you've banged on the demo and are still not convinced, then let us produce a setup to your specs, free of charge,
to try on your machine. We want you to be confident in your decision.
All CPC software comes with complete context-sensitive help. Touch the F1 key and information is displayed about the prompt you're viewing. No searching through documentation or help topics!
Software is described below. If you have any questions, please visit our FAQ page or contact us. The revision history for each module may be viewed at the Software Revision Page.
CPC-SB - Creates DUPLEX SPREAD-BLADE SPIRAL summaries for Gleason Nos. 16, 7 and 3" Generators!
This PC Program is for Gleason Spiral Generators with or without cutter tilt, and does not require Helical Motion (H20) which makes it a possible choice for Gleason No. 16 . Typically, the recommendation is to apply CPC-SB to 12 DP and finer. CPC-SB is ideal for both job shop and production work - one operation on fine pitches to finish cut each member and same cutter applied to each member.
Pattern control can favor the loaded tooth surfaces when service is one-direction rotation. If better pattern control is required, then consider CPC-DUP or CPC-BV1.
"Spread Blade" cutters have alternate blades that cut inside and outside tooth faces and thus finish cut both sides for fine pitches. Other pressure angles (between 17.5 and 22.5 degrees) may be cut with cutter number "O" in all cases, but if the machine has cutter tilt you can use other available cutter numbers. The software calculates the proper cutter tilt and swivel plus necessary machine setting adjustments.
Default input values are calculated where possible. Default input values may be changed, but CPC-SB warns of questionable choices. This warning is usually the Tooth Taper Ratio, which is between 1 and 1.5 when a successful summary is found. User has discretion to choose cutter diameter and cutter number within limits, and some experimentation is allowed with tooth proportions.
CPC-SB Features:
Machine constants are built in for Nos. 16 and 7 machines.
Summaries are clearly identified and saved separately for each different method and machine no.
Default dimensions and tooling choices based on industry standards
Duplex taper is automatically determined for tooth proportions per method criteria.
Saves setup/summary history to an internal database
You may rerun an "old design", make changes and save, or save anew to preserve the "old design".
CPC-SB remembers all print specs and choices with one click.
No graphs, tables, or calculator necessary
Graphical and tabular data are built in. All choices are automatic where possible. Choices that require
user intervention are initially calculated and displayed by default where possible and explained in
the F1 help screens.
Nominal Cutter Listing is included
Inventory of cutter tooling may be customized by selecting "Tooling" option at the main menu.
Using this table is optional, but can be useful to determine cutter availability while creating
a suitable summary.
CPC-SB develops all gear design dimensions, change gears, and machine settings.
Uses change gear inventory that comes standard with machines
CPC-SB develops working Ratio (Nc75) and Index (30/N) change gears.
Complete data sheet specific for machine for each job
Dimension sheet, all machine settings, and cutter specs can be reviewed
on screen and then printed out for job folder. Unlike summaries you may be used to,
data sheets show only settings necessary for the target machine to avoid confusion.
Comes complete with on-line context sensitive help screens
As you move from input to input, the F1 key "keeps up" with you.
F1 displays help and suggestions for the current input.

CPC-UNI - Creates SPIRAL, HYPOID and ZEROL summaries for Gleason Nos. 16, 106, 116, 108 and 118 machines!
This PC Program is for Gleason Hypoid Spiral Generators with cutter tilt. Unitool is ideal for job shop work for two reasons - requires no more than 6 cutters with fixed point widths, and the pinion is cut "in Place". This means that the operator can cut and test a complete pair without further calculations!
CPC-UNI creates Formate Hypoid and Spiral gearset summaries. Generated Spiral and Zerol summaries are for ratios below 3:1 and for intersecting axes only. Formate Hypoid summaries are for ratios above 3:1 and produce pairs with or without pinion offset. The hypoid gear is cut formate.
Gleason machines are able to use special Unitool rotary face milling style cutters. Unitool cutters are balanced 20 degree pressure angle, specially ground to achieve lengthwise and profile ease-off. Blades are mounted permanently and the point width is fixed for each cutter. Blades alternate between inside and outside blades just as in a standard spiral cutter. Other pressure angles (between 17.5 and 22.5 degrees) may be cut since the software calculates the proper cutter tilt necessary.
If you are not familiar with Gleason's Unitool method, you can read more about it in the Unitool FAQ topic.
As a matter of interest, the unitool method can be applied to any machine with cutter tilt.
Regular spiral cutters may be used for roughing.
Cutting the pinion "in-Place" means that bearing corrections observed in a testing machine are directly (although inversely) applied to the production machine - No propotional changes necessary!
Default input values are calculated where possible. Default input values may be changed, but CPC-UNI warns of questionable choices. Choices that won't work are prevented and options are explained in the help screens.
Please Note:This program will produce summaries for both intersecting and NON-intersecting shafts.
CPC-UNI Features:
Choose to Specify Gear Outside Diameter instead of Diametral Pitch
Users that work from samples usually have difficulty with Diametral Pitch, which is a required input.
CPC-UNI now accepts Outside Diameter of the gear as a substitute for Diametral Pitch. The program then calculates
Diametral Pitch. This can avoid errors and makes working with samples much easier.
Machine constants are built in for Nos. 16, 106, 116, 108 and 118 machines.
Summaries are clearly identified and saved separately for each different method and machine no.
Default dimensions and tooling choices based on industry standards
Offers root line adjustments (Tilted, Duplex as well as Standard)
User selected based on print specs.
Summaries for angular sets (shaft angles other than 90 degrees)
Saves setup/summary history to an internal database
You may rerun an "old design", make changes and save, or save as new.
CPC-UNI remembers all print specs and choices with one click.
No graphs, tables, or calculator necessary

CPC-HYP - Creates HYPOID summaries for four Spiral Bevel Gear Generators!
This PC Program is for Gleason Nos. 16, 106, 116, and 26 Hypoid Spiral Generators using Spread-Blade Gear & Fixed-Setting Pinion method. Produces all finishing, roughing and pinion propotional changes settings. These machines use rotary face milling style cutter. Pinion propotional changes allow control of tooth bearing pattern.
Default input values are calculated where possible. Default input values may be changed, but CPC-HYP warns of questionable choices. Choices that won't work are prevented and options are explained in the help screens.
Please Note:This program produces summaries for NON-intersecting shafts only. See CPC-BV1 or CPC-26 for intersecting axes.
CPC-HYP Features:
Choose to Specify Gear Outside Diameter instead of Diametral Pitch
Users that work from samples usually have difficulty with Diametral Pitch, which is a required input.
CPC-HYP now accepts Outside Diameter of the gear as a substitute for Diametral Pitch. The program then calculates
Diametral Pitch. This can avoid errors and makes working with samples much easier.
Custom Cutter inventory is now fully maintainable. Cutters may be "Requested" during Summary Creation
User may now switch between the Standard Blade List (Fixed) or the new Custom Cutter Inventory list. Using the
Custom Cutter Inventory list, it is easier to determine if you have the cutter, or need to order the cutter,
or play "What if" to try different cutters.
When Custom Cutter Inventory is selected at Options/Preferences, cutters may be added ("Requested") while
at Pinion and Gear Blade selection windows. "Requested" cutters may be inspected as a group from the Cutter
Inventory Maintenance screen. This simplifies ordering, changing status, identifying with specific jobs, etc.
Proportional Changes may be applied directly to machine settings
User may manage, view, and print machine settings with applied Proportional Changes.
This gives operator an accurate printout of modified settings - no calculator required.
Proportional Changes are saved as separate component of a nominal summary for later review and tweaking.
All machine constants are built into program for Nos. 16, 106, 116, and 26 machines.
Summaries are clearly identified and saved separately for each different machine no.
Machines No. 11 or No. 22 may be optionally selected for roughing
Default dimensions and tooling choices based on industry standards
Gear set dimensions are suggested, where possible, to assist when working from samples.
Standard Blade List defines point width, pressure angles, and edge radii for standard cutters.
Custom Cutter Inventory uses [F1] help screens to present information when entering new cutters.
Offers root line adjustments (Tilted, Duplex as well as Standard)
User selected based on print specs.

Module CPC-26 - Spiral Bevel Generator
This setup module is for Gleason No. 26 spiral bevel machine. The basic No. 26 may be used in several processes: roughing, finishing, grinding, production, and in "jobber" (Small Job Fixed Blade) mode. High production requires the fixed-blade setup method which requires special cutters/bodies specific to the job.
CPC-26 Features:
ZEROL summary creation added (ZEROL feature still in testing phase)
Produces setup and design summary for the jobber (SJFB)
method only
An SJFB setup requires each member to be machine mounted and cut twice.
This is quite acceptable for small lots and is Gleason's recommendation
to control contact pattern and profile bearing. Because of its ability
to use your tooling cutters to cover a range of pitches and ratios,
the No. 26 machine is ideally suited for small job lots and the SJFB method.
Please Note:This program produces summaries for intersecting shafts only. There is no input for Hypoid offset. If you need hypoid summaries, see CPC-HYP software above. If you require higher productivity and want to cut gear in single operation, see CPC-FS software above.
Input either DP or OD of Gear
If you are working from samples, you may measure and enter Gear OD and let
CPC-26 calculate Diametral Pitch. Can be useful when DP is not given.

You easily control table feed even in helical gear setups for machines without a differential.
CPC-HOB Features:
Maintains a customized list of your hobbing machines.
Enter machine constants once and only once. If you have difficulty
finding out what your hob machine constants are, we can do it for you.
This is the only time you need to consider what a machine constant is!
Works for all types of gear hobbing machines:
with differential, without differential, dial feed, or tangential feed.
Change gear inventories may be customized for each machine.
Enter a min. and max. size and enter missing sizes to be excluded
from change gear sets.
Simply select a machine from the machine list and enter gear specs
Suggest a table feed and CPC-HOB does the rest.
Enter gear data as NDP, NCP, TDP, Module, AGMA Stub or Fellows Stub tooth
Enter helix angle in Degrees/Minutes or Decimal Degrees.
Don't like a change gear set?
Remove, multiply, divide, or factor change gear sizes easily on screen
for any change gear set (index, differential, or feed). CPC-HOB will
not let you make a mistake, and tells you what's wrong if you try.
Creates "hybrid" setups to cut large prime number teeth on spur gears
Using CPC-HOB's Dual option, you can create a setup that does not require
prime change gears. NOTE: Dual setups require a differential machine designed
to use feed change gears, and not hydraulic feed.
Determines nominal OD and over pin measurement
You specify Pressure angle and Min/Max backlash allowance.
Creates matching RH and LH setups for non-differential machines
Ever cut the same gear in both RH and LH helix? CPC-HOB
easily produces both setups using same feed gears - When 1st gear
is finished, simply change index gears and table angle to cut the 2nd gear.
Windows print dialog automatically displays printer choices each time you print
Print to any printer you have access to as well as your Windows default printer.
Print out specs and gear sets for a working machine setup every time.
CPC-HOB creates a .txt file image of your printed setup
Setup .txt files are referenced to each printed setup, or optionally configured as a
single "last setup" .txt file. Handy for Emailing setups. Can be opened and printed
from any word processor.
User Preference screen to control a number of options
Printing, print file configuration, operating system, and index gear train size and range.
Comes complete with on-line context sensitive help screens

Module CPC-RATIO - The Premier Change Gear Finder
Most manual machines such as hobbers, shapers, thread mills, hob grinders, rack machines, etc. use change gears, right? Simply stated, CPC-RATIO finds change gear sets based on YOUR machines and YOUR gear inventories. It's one thing to find the best gear set - it's something else to find a "best" gear set limited to the change gears you have and assure that it will mesh on the machine. CPC-RATIO will maintain each machine's configuration under its unique name and makes each machine available to you when you need a new gearset. CPC-RATIO is a universal gear set finder and will easily pay for itself after a few uses.
A complete User Guide for CPC-RATIO is now available to licensed users. If you haven't received one, please email your name and company name to:
CPC-RATIO Features:
Find 4-gear or 6-gear change gear sets for your machines
On today's fast computers, the best four-gear set takes only a few seconds. Best six-gear
sets require more time, depending on your configuration (gear range, missing gear size list,
extra gear size list, etc.).
Create Fellows-style gearsets
For example: Fellows No. 7 © shapers employ the A + B driver/driven pair on fixed centers,
which in turn imposes a min. / max. range on C + D final driver/driven pair. Even
in a case like this, CPC-RATIO can be set up to faithfully produce a change gear set.
Find Absolute Best Ratio or Specify Allowable Error
You can find change gears in a book of decimal ratios; but try to find the best set of gears
from your gear inventory and that will fit on your machine. CPC-RATIO is doing a lot for you.
For a 6-gear set this can take a little longer, so you can decide on a best ratio or
speed things up by setting a reasonable error allowance.
All Machines Available from One Destop Icon
CPC-RATIO accepts any number of machines and maintains all related data for each one.
Once you enter a machine's data, you never need to reenter it. Just select the machine,
calculate the variable portion of the formula displayed to you, and print your gearset.
That's all!
Separate desktop icons may still be used if desired, but it is not required for the purpose
of maintaining different machines.
Group Machines that use a Common Change Gear Inventory
Machines may have different formulas, constants, etc. but may draw their change gears from
a common inventory. Rather than enter inventory range, missing sizes and extra sizes for
each machine, these lists are entered once and easily copied to other machines that you want
to group together in the machine selection list. To repeat, only the inventory is shared
by a group so that constant values and formulas are maintained uniquely for each machine.
Unlimited Gear Size Lists
Lists of Missing Sizes and Extra Sizes are now unlimited and easily maintained. For
example, enter a basic range, like 30-100. Next enter all missing sizes within that range,
(like 36, 77, 92, etc). Then enter all extra sizes available (like 24, 30, 60, 113, 127, etc).
You can fully describe each machine's unique gear inventory this way, or create a shared
inventory for a group of machines. And, the lists are sorted when you finish editing!
Machine Formula Entry
CPC-RATIO accepts a change gear formula just as you find it in your machine's manual. Type
the formula straight from the book using a few simple rules.
Menu replaces Hot Keys
Navigation is improved with menu. Also, your last machine selected is used at startup. If
you elect to enter your machine's formula, CPC-RATIO displays the variable portion of the
machine's formula for you to calculate, plus CPC-RATIO automatically applies the constants
in the machine's formula to complete the desired decimal ratio. This simplifies the user's
calculation and minimizes the chance for mistakes.
For simple ratios that don't involve a formula, the first selection in the machine list is
always the Simplified 1:1 Machine choice. You configure the Simplified 1:1 choice just as
you would for any machine (gear range, gear lists, etc.) except for formula, of course.
Maintainability
When you select "Setup" option, you have access to any machine recorded in CPC-RATIO.
If gears are in use on another machine in a group, add those sizes to the group's
Missing Sizes List. from then on, any setups performed for any other machine
in the group will not include those sizes. When the sizes are returned to inventory,
simply remove them from the Missing Sizes List for the group.
Print report option to record your gearset and its configuration
Save a copy of change gear set(s) along with your prints and specs for the job. Also
Also saves a copy to a .TXT file.
Comes complete with on-line context sensitive help screens
As you move from input to input, the F1 key "keeps up" with you.
F1 always displays help and suggestions for the current input.

PLEASE NOTE:
CPC-DUP will only work for machines using Helical Motion (H20).
If your Spiral Bevel Generator does NOT use Helical Motion (e.g. No. 16), see CPC-SB.
This PC Program is for Gleason Spiral Generators with or without cutter tilt. CPC-DUP is ideal for both job shop and production work - one operation on fine pitches to finish cut each member and same cutter applied to each member.
Pattern control can favor the loaded tooth surfaces when service is one-direction rotation.
Default input values may be changed, but CPC-DUP warns of questionable choices. User has discretion to choose cutter diameter and cutter numbers within limits, so some experimentation is allowed.
CPC-DUP Features:
Range of Sum Of Cutters extended to allow selection of #0 cutters.
A new user input is added to improve control over Sum of Cutter Numbers.
Machine constants are built in for Nos. 2, 102H, 106, 108 and 7A machines.
Summaries are clearly identified and saved separately for each different method and machine no.
Special Skip Interval and index change gears for No. 2 and 102H machine.
Number of teeth to skip is selectable from custom list based on cradle roll and teeth to cut.
Option to skip index change gears and display index ratio to speed up summary process.
Default dimensions and tooling choices based on industry standards
Duplex taper is automatically determined for tooth proportions per method criteria.
Saves setup/summary history to an internal database
You may rerun an "old design", make changes and save, or save as new.
CPC-DUP remembers all print specs and choices with one click.
No graphs, tables, or calculator necessary
Graphical and tablular data are built in. All choices are automatic where possible. Choices that require
user intervention are defaulted where possible and explained in the F1 help screens.
CPC-DUP develops all gear design dimensions, change gears, and machine settings.
Uses change gear inventory that comes standard with machines
CPC-DUP develops working Ratio (Nc75 or Nc50) and Index (30/N) change gears.
Complete data sheet specific for machine for each job
Dimension sheet, all machine settings, and cutter specs
can be reviewed on screen and then printed out for job folder. Unlike summaries you may be used to,
data sheets show only settings necessary for the target machine to avoid confusion.
Comes complete with on-line context sensitive help screens
As you move from input to input, the F1 key "keeps up" with you.
F1 displays help and suggestions for the current input.

How do I obtain a license and activate the software?
The easy way is to call Ash Gear & Supply (248) 374-6155 and let Scott Atkinson show you how. But keep reading to find out how a demo becomes fully functional.
(1) Send Ash Gear the ID number reported from the demo program installed on your computer.
(2) Include a list of specific software modules you want to activate. (3) Be sure to include your company name, contact person, address, and phone with your order. |
Where do I find the COMPUTER ID NUMBER?
A Computer ID number identifies a specific computer for software activation. Be sure you have installed the demo on the computer where you intend to run the software. Start up the demo and select "READ & ACTIVATE". Select "I AGREE". The registration screen will display the ID number (beginning with "CPC") for the software on your computer.
You may install and run CPC software on a Local Area Network system, but the license and ID number will correspond only to the workstation from which you run the demo. In other words, each workstation has a unique PC ID and Activation Key.
How do I register my company? Why do I need to send in contact information?
Ash Gear and CPC need to know how to identify the licensee of registered software. If you need new keys, it is important that we know that you, as licensed user, are making the request. We guarantee that the information you give us will be confidential.
What is an Activation Key?
An activation key is a string of characters that, when typed into the demo, turns the demo into a full version software solution. From then on, the program runs normally. Future program updates are fully functional using the same activation key(s).
Some companies sell a parallel port connector that you install on the back of your computer called a hardware protection device, or "dongle". Dongles are generally a nuisance, but many software companies use them to protect their products from software "pirates". Our method protects the software with minimal inconvenience. Unlike a dongle, an activation key can be sent instantly by E-mail, FAX or phone to anyone anywhere. Also, you can have many licensed program modules without requiring a single dongle.
Each computer has an ID number which we use to generate an activation key. Once you receive the activation key for your computer/program combination, simply enter it into the demo's registration screen. It's that simple.
Your purchase includes up to five (5) activation keys for additional computer licenses that
are to be used only by you or your company. We suggest that you save some of these five requests
for future changes to your computer hardware that might affect the ID number and activation key.
Additional licenses?
Additional licenses beyond the first five are available only to the original purchaser at a
price not to exceed 5% of current module license price. For example, CPC-HOB module license
costs $600.00 USD for the original user license. You can request four more activation keys at
no charge. The 6th activation key request would cost no more than 5% of $600.00 or $30.00 USD.
If you have any questions, here are a number of ways to contact us.
