If the Southbend gears can be adapted to the hobber that's a great solution. Again, you need practically every tooth size from 30-100T for general job shop work. Otherwise, you run the risk of having to make missing change gear sizes when needed.
Also, gear diameter might be a factor. The machine must be able to accommodate your Southbend change gear sizes within limitations of C-C distance and swing arm angle. In other words, if the Mikron is designed to use 1.5 mod gears, maybe 2.5 mod gears would be too large to fit in some cases.
gear pitches can be mixed when necessary, as long as each driver/driven pair is the same pitch. This was suggested in an earlier post where a large prime tooth gear (large no. of teeth) could be cut without an excessively large OD change gear. In that case, the driver/driven pair were helical and of a finer pitch, which allowed cutting the required prime tooth change gear as helical, which doesn't require a same tooth prime spur change gear to cut the helical.
